Update Your Kitchen for a Professional Cooking Environment
These tips are here for people who love cooking and want to create the best kitchen environment for them to do so. Old or unnecessary items can slow down you cooking times, making a cluttered and even dangerous space for your culinary magic to happen, and no one wants that.If you’re renovating the whole kitchen and want to make sure the changes will help, or you just want to update specific items, such as the hob, to increase cooking efficiency, this guide will help you make informed decisions on what to buy and where to go for your kitchen equipment.
Gas Hob
New and quickly built homes often come with electric ovens and hobs purely because it’s easier and cheaper to buy and install them. There’s nothing wrong with the electric oven- In my opinion they are far superior to gas ovens- but electric hobs just won’t do. If you’re the type of cook that likes to improvise with seasoning and ingredients as they cook, then you need a hob that will match your varying times and styles.
The delay on electronic hobs means it’s much easier to overcook and burn things while you’re trying to lower the temperature, and because it takes so long to cool down they are really risky for children and unsuspecting guests who accidentally place something on the hot plate. Make sure you get a gas hob with electric oven for the most efficient cooking experience.
One or Two Good Knives
There are plenty of places that will try and sell ‘professional’ knife sets, containing upwards of twelve different knives when, in reality, only a couple are needed. Also, if you dedicate the same amount of cash to one or two instead of the whole set, you will get much better quality stuff for your money.
Excluding break knives, I would say that the most important to have are a (roughly) 10cm cook’s knife, and a smaller paring knife.
The cook’s will chop, slice and dice anything you are working with. This is the essential one as nearly everything can be done with it.
The paring knife is great for filleting, peeling or dealing with small and fiddly foods.
Once you’ve bought some really high quality knives you will notice the different with the ease of preparing food in your new kitchen.
Clutterless Kitchen
This is more a tip on what you DON’T need for your kitchen update. If you’re doing a complete re-fit then you may be thinking of a space to put your electric-lighted-song-playing pan lids or some other utterly useless kitchen gadget, but, as you’re working on reducing the clutter, all that needs to go. Consider each item to be a distraction. Every time an extra thing is added to the kitchen, the amount of distractions increases. Have a look at your pans and gadgets and consider what you really need and what you have because your Grandparents bought it for you.
